Both teams had to overcome a lot. The Tigers had a tough fight for the AL Central and eventually went in as the wildcard. But they beat the Yankees and swept the A's.
The Card's had a similar decline and almost lsot the NL central. But they rallied and held that and got past both the Padres and Mets.
Overall I think the Tigers have a few key advantages. They have a lot more rest and home field advantage. I like their picthing better although they do have a younger team. The cardinals at least have a lot of experiance as well as a pretty powerful lineup.
It will be a great series but I am thinking Tigers in 6.

Pitching is by far the most important aspect, and its basically impossible to win a WS w/o a very solid pitching staff, something the Cards do not have. They do, however, have Carpenter who is a possible Cy Young candidate (won it last season also) who will win 1 game IMO. Jeff Weavers luck will run out.
ALSO, having the time off that the Tigers did really favors their pitchers, which is their strong point. It hurts the Cardinals which is their weak point.
The Tigers have come in winning 7 straight, the Cards didnt win back to back games since the NLDS. The Tigers are the hot team.
The Cards had a MUCH better team who wasnt banged up and who had a much more high powered offense and even a better pitching staff in 04, they failed to even scare the Red Sox in a single game that series.
Tigers win this series in 5 games. It wouldnt surprise me if it went to 6 but the Cards have about a 8% chance to win it all...

I don't think they will sweep the Cardinals but Detroit will prevail. Perhaps 4 games to 2 or 1 for St. Louis.
Detroit got a break by being able to rest its players some of whom were dinged up. On the other side of the bag St. Louis has several players with nagging injuries and have had to expend more energy in getting to the championship game.
It doesn't look good for St. Louis. I think everyone was surprised that the Mets were able to stay competitive with St. Louis given its depleted pitching staff.

It's hard to say. While the Cardinals only won 83 games in the regular season, they just beat one of the best teams (if not the best team) in the majors in the Mets. They also handled the Padres rather easily. They appear to have gotten hot at the right time but I still think that Detroit will win the World Series, just not in 4 games. Jeff Suppan and Jeff Weaver are pitching like aces right now - add in Chris Carpenter and their pitching isn't as bad as you might think.

The past couple of years Saint Louis gets to the Playoffs or the World Series but they never seem to win the whole thing?
Will the let their fans down again?
I think Detroit has the edge, maybe not in 4 but in 6

I think it will be Tigers in 5 games. The Ex-Pirate Management
System in Detroit will defeat the Brokeback Cardinal Management
in St. Louis (Tony LasRussa & his Butt buddies, Dave Duncan,
Marty Mason and Dave McGay)

I would allow the Cards to win one game that Carpenter pitches, so Detroit wins it in 5 games.

There ae so many other factors in play here. Cardinals have a more veteran team. Things like stolen bases and defense are magnified in such a short and important series.
