Does anyone know if its true that if you drink a lot of whole milk while pregnant your fetus will gain wieght? I went to doc for 30 week scan yesterday and baby is measuring about 32 weeks and is almost 4 pounds. They think because he is big he will come early. I want to know if drinking milk will help increase his weight for early birth?

Drinking whole milk will not affect how big the baby is. If you carry to term your baby will be between 8-9 lbs which is big but not huge.

My daughter just turned 12 months and is on whole milk now which contrary to what other people have said is what she should have because babies need the fat. Because of this the whole family is drinking whole milk, instead of having to buy different milk. I am pregnant with # 4 and haven't had any issues with added weight gain yet. Plus I love whole milk!!!

Just take it easy and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

The size of the baby has nothing to do with how soon he will be born. Babies are born when the time is right, not when they weight enough to be born. There is no magic weight that will start labor. It is more important to focus on a nutritious diet rather than one that will make the baby as big as possible.
The only difference betweem whole milk and 2% milk, or skim milk is the amount of fat in the milk. No one really benefits from extra fat. 2% milk is probably the best choice. Dairy products are a wonderful source of calcium and that is important when you are pregnant.
Eat healthy and don't worry about when your baby will be born. He will come when he is ready.

Milk has nothing to do with it. With your daughter being over 7 pounds 3 weeks early, you might be one to have big babies. I have two, and pregnant with #3. They already moved my due date up a week, because of the size, and I'm still in my first trimester!!
My daughter was 8 lbs, 12 oz. , and my son was 9 lbs 5 ozs.
They were both born a couple of days before they were due.
The baby will come out when it's ready. Boys lungs develop slower than girls, so your Dr. might want to make sure they are fully developed before he can be born. Congratulations and good luck.

Measuring 2 weeks big shouldn't alarm your doctor. 4 weeks big should. Just make sure if you continue to measure big that you are getting regular scans to check for amniotic fluid levels.

My daughter measured 2 weeks big my entire pregnancy and she was a very normal 7 pounds 12 ounces. I'm currently pregnant and measuring 2 weeks big and my midwives are not concerned.

Drinking whole milk won't solve any problem other than upping yoru calcium.

At that point in your pregnancy they won't change the due date but that doesn't mean he won't come early either. Only he knows for sure. As for whole milk, I have always been told to drink 1% or 2% while being pregnant because you don't need that extra fat. Good Luck!

milk is not going to make your baby any bigger than it would have been to start with, baby gets the nutrients from everything you eat and drink, as far as the due date. you can be two weeks behind or ahead of what the scan says. there never 100% accurate and no you dont need to change your due date

No whole milk isn't a magic potion.
Why would you want an "early" birth? Baby needs time to fully develop. Weight isn't the only indicator of a healthy full-term baby.

my baby was over 4 lbs at 32 weeks and my doctor didn't say he was big. he actually said he was right where he's supposed to be. he never changed the due date either. then when i got home i looked in my book and it said that's what they're supposed to weigh at 32 weeks. so i don't think your baby is overweight.

My wife had a scan at 28 weeks and little one was weighing about 3lbs. So 4lbs at that stage sounds about right.

Milk has nothing to do with it...other than whole milk is bad for you. It has too much fat in it, my pediatrician told me skim milk is the best even for infants weening off of formula, unless they are under weight.
