Does that mean you still believe the NIE report that stated Saddam had WMD? Or do we get to pick and choose?

How is it obvious that the NIE has learned some kind of "lesson"? They're job is the same.

We absolutely get to pick and choose! If one report is wrong, the other MIGHT be, but if you don't still believe the NIE report that stated Saddam had WMD, should that mean you have also declared all further NIEs wrong? Especially now when they might be making more effort to be sure all conflicting views are represented, a person reading the NIE will have to pick and choose which parts to believe and which parts not to. And later events may prove those parts (and that person) right or wrong.

This is actually quite a good question. Refer to my question on the politicization of the NIE yesterday. It is not acceptable that such serious work can be subject to the whims of politicians. That is actually what happened in the Saddam case and obviously the NIE have learned their lesson, just like James Baker, a family friend of the Bush's now saying the war was wrong and predicated on falsehoods.

What you look to forget is two diverse Sec of protection! I have little doubt Rummy leaned on the commitee to get this style of NIE record on Iraq he(and Bush) needed! Now the NIE commitee contributors understand they're going to have a diverse grasp in approximately 13 months!

The fraudulent report stating that Saddam had WMD was not our NIE report. It came from England's MI6, their version of the CIA.

Get your facts straight.

We get to pick and choose. That is what humans do. If you were a terrorist and you want to set bombs to kill Americans what country would you go to in order to do that? Only a fool would think a terrorist would stand and fight our marines in Iraq, they will not, they do the dirty work behind our backs, just like Nam.
Now tell me this if you were the President would you take action if you were given a report (called a PBD) from the CIA and FBI named "terrorist determined to attack the USA"? In that report it told you "they were already in this country" and "they would use hi j_acked commercial planes to blow up buildings". Or would you discount it as a "Historical Document" you get to pick and choose now. Use you intellect wisely. Lack of action could cost over 3000 Americans there life.

A Report is a report...there will always be opinion based findings as well as "facts" with a margin of error, the tasks of our "supremely intelligent elected congressional officials" are to weed through the information and deem it substantial or not--In the case of WMD in Iraq--they failed.
*Hopefully the NIE had learned their lesson and with this report, they were more conservative in their "estimations" and hopefully our "S.I.E.C.O." will have a better go of it this time around. (especially since elections are just around the corner)

One was proven wrong, but hindsight is always 20/20.

The insurgents right now prove that they are breeding more terrorists, so we need to ensure that this war comes to an end and that the Iraqi people are content with their government.

Apples and oranges...

They can both be true, one can be true, or both can be false...

Pick and choose away...
