i was standing in line when the smoke was exhaled direct to my face i looked at the guy but he tuned away

I would ask if he/she can be considerate and blew the smoke in a direction that does not bother anyone. Especially if you are in a line and moving away means loosing your place on line. What that person is doing is extremely rude. Also, I would move away as far as I can.

That's so inconsiderate. I used to be a smoker myself but if I was in a public place I would either go to a completely secluded place to smoke or wait till I got back in my car. If that would have been me I would have grabbed the cigarette and snapped it in two. That's so unbelievably rude and it's the same thing as coughing without covering your mouth.

I find it most effective to cough and hack and wave my hand frantically back and forth in an exaggerated manner as if fanning the smoke away. The point gets across every time.

If it seems as if it was by accident, I would try to call the person's attention to it without being beligerent, for example waving my hand in front of my face, stepping away from the person, etc.
If I had reason to believe the person did it on purpose, I would ask he/she to please not blow smoke on me or anyone else. I would consider saying something like, "Please do not blow smoke on other people; if you are going to smoke, at least do not force secondhand smoke on others."

I would ignore them and walk away or turn my head in a different direction.

Need more info.
Did they do this intentionally? Or, were you merely close to them? Were you bugging them? Had they told you to go away and leave them alone? Were you begging for spare change?
