At present I work as a full time debt collector & I am 38 years old. I graduated about 15 years ago with a degree which included topics from Maths, Finance & Computing.
Can you advice the best career to go into bearing in mind my age, that I have difficulty relocating, since I now have a family & that I have not got any professional qualifications.
I did think of studying professional qualifications in computing via trainers such as Computeach, but they charge a lot & there seems to be no guarantee of a job at the end of the training. I also do not want to become an Accountant because of the number of years involved in studying & some employers will be relucant to take me on because of my age. I have also discounted other careers such as becoming a policeman, teacher & any other work which involves considerable contact with people. By the way, I am only 5 foot 1. I would prefer to have an office based job.
Sorry for being so picky, but thanks in advance for any advice.

I also went back to college at a less than young age 36 years old, so i say go for it. you are never to old, and more and more college campuses are holding more non-traditional students. My suggestion would be to go to the college/university of your choice, some have scholarships available for non-traditional students, also they offer classes one day a week in certain areas for working older students. The career counselor or adviser would be able to assist you in what would be best for you when you go in and discuss your interests and what is available and what is the best route to take. You could consider a degreee in business or business management something along those lines. I wish you luck, good luck and God bless

Well since you have a degree, and don't like interacting with a bunch of people, what about IT Support? That pays really good pay and you can work from home a lot as well. I would do some research on that field and then find a company that is willing to let you work from home. You may have to start out working at the company then maybe part at home and part at the company then maybe full time at home. But it may be worth it in the long run. Good luck!

How about financial consulting? Sounds like after being a debt collector you know alot of the mistakes people make. Maybe you could use your knowledge in what not to do. You could help people make sound financial decisions and that would probably also make you feel good. Cuz I would think that being a debt collector would take its toll on you mentally after awhile. I wouldn't know but i have a financiel consultant and he has helped me make decisions I am really happy with. It sounds to me like you definitely have the experience and education to do something along those lines. Good Luck I'm proud of you I'm 36 and recently just changed careers myself. Change is good.

Hi>
Having pored through your informative question, I discover similarities in work-place style.
So if it is of any good .........
I traded my B.Sc from Hertfordshie Uni. for a M.Sc, through the Open University of all places. Then, being as a bit of a bod in Electrical & Electronic stuff, I went ex-pat for "The Military" in lovely foreign climes.
As I am only 5ft 6In, and at the time did not qualifly for a position in the Police, Becoming a thing in playing with gizmos was great.
Try ex-pat.
Great fun.
Bob.

You can make some legitimate money if you have a blog at Blogger.com of a free website like Google pages which will allow you to publish Google Adsense. http://tashi.web.design.googlepages.com/website-sponsor
It's very personal and it depends on how you define a good career or business. First, set a goal for what? do you want in life. Plan what you will do to reach your goal.
I always tell people this, 'You can make money if you can create website or blogs'. by providing free and good information.
I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. I strive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.
Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.
You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.
Why sign up with me? Because we can link to each other to get more traffic and income. I'll working on this website
http://tashi.web.design.googlepages.com soon after I'm done with my client's website.

What about going into Credit Management. You can use your skills to decided who the company extends credit too, how much, what the danger signs are and you can certainly help collect.
