The change of organic matters and the excreta of the animals into soil depends upon the type and the amount of oxygen/sunlight available for oxidising the matter to change it in to soil. Soil is nothing but a mixture of compounds(in general oxides) of silicon, calcium aluminium and other similar elements. In general it can be said that in exposed weather conditions it may take 24 to 48 hrs and in buried condition it may take 5 - 6 months to get the matter oxidised to change into soil.

Soil is a mixture of organic matter and rock matter. Sand/clay and compost. Sand and clay already exists in the ground, but compost takes about 6 months to break down - if it has the right amount of air and moisture.
