I would suggest to download a spyware remover tool. You can get a free one called Spybot search and destroy... just do a yahoo/google search for it, it's free and it does a nice job. If you want something a little more advance you might look into buying SpySweeper. I used SpySweeper and it would find alot of spyware that the other tool missed. That is likely what is slowing down your computer. If your computer still isn't working up to par, try doing a system restore to a time when your computer was running at optimal speed (this won't delete files you created but will remove any programs you installed after the date you choose). Hope this helps. Best Wishes :-)

McAfee is not a good virus program. It does not catch all the viruses. You need to get PC-Cillin. It is a very good program to use. McAfee tends to miss a lot of viruses in thier scans. Also, it is more likely u have a lot of spyware and malware on your computer. Use scans like Ad-aware, couterspy, spysweeper, ect. If it is really bad still after you do those scans, you may need to take it into a store like best buy and have it cleaned. You dont wanna let those problems keep going though, some spyware and viruses take your personal info...that is how some get their identity stolen.

If after running a virus scan, with no virus being found, I'd run Disk Cleanup from Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ Disk Cleanup. It could be your drive is clogged up with temporary files and other rubbish. I would also recommend using the free "ccleaner" download it from here: http://ccleaner.com/

i have noticed that computers with mcafee ran slow to begin with...try getting a different virus software.
have you installed any large programs?
how much memory do you have?
have you used adaware se? it is a good program it removes spyware. when was the last time you defragmented your hard drive. how much hard drive space do you have left? less than 500MB will cause windows to slow down.

Get one of the Live CDroms, and boot it in the CD and it loads into the RAM disc. Techs use it for these types of troubles...

If the system runs faster, then, you have problems on the hard drive, or in the OS that is on the hard drive...

Like malware, virus, Trojans, etc...

Also, if that is a Microsoft OS, open up your start menu and toss out most of the apps. there, as each one that loads on the desktop at start up slows the system...

The only place I went to this morning (my day off) was here and my computer started to run slow as well. I ran my ad-aware and found 15 tracking cookies on my computer. I got rid of them and want to warn everyone that some people think it's funny to give others viruses and put tracking cookies on others computers. I think they came from here. So beware.

Try doing a system restore if you recently installed software.

If you see no improvement, do the following:

1. get antispyware, run the program to see what it finds.
Follow the program instructions to purge your hard drive of
spyware.
2. clear your browsing history, temporary files etc. thru your internet browser.
3. run scandisk
4. defragment your hard drive
5. check to see what programs are running and how much memory they are using.

If none of this works, your hard drive could be TOAST. Follow the link below to find hard drive diagonostic tools.

its probably not a virus but Spyware and mcafee doesnt detect them all.
Go to Lavasoft.com and download their anti-spyware and run and this should cure the problem.
