Practice carrying a 15 stone man up and down a ladder by the side of a burning building.

Learn to watch pornography in a room full of perverts without throwing up.

Be prepared to be groped at all times of the day and night.

Make sure you can stand heights as you are tested on this. Make sure that you do not suffer from claustrophobia as you are sent into smoke tunnels, with BA equipment, and expected to find your way out.
Be sure you have real upper body strength as you are tested on this.
If you get through the training is probably worse than army training with a morning run every day in addition to the marching and general fire training.
Good luck and be prepared for anything.

I hope you like hosing down people's intestines and putting human guts into bin liners.

I do not think it's a suitable job for a young woman, sorry. Any glamour that might once have come about by "doing a man's job" is long gone.

No tips I'm afraid but can I just say I wish you all the very best and hope you make it. My grandfather was a fire fighter and I'm very proud of the job he did. I imagine your family will be proud of you also and rightly so. Good luck x
