No, I don't think so at all. These are people who cannot control their circumstances, who do not have access to the resources and opportunities that you do. Do you really think people want to live so poorly on public aid? The person above who said people are living lavishly is a complete idiot. These people struggle every day of their lives just to eat. I'm sure you did not take out loans just to eat. Perhaps you were in college - which is a luxury you chose to indulge in. These people have no access to that sort of thing.
And when they get back on their feet, they do pay it back by being able to contribute to society.

No, the fact that they got back on their feet and off public assistance is good enough for me. Perhaps there should be a program that lessons your benefits each year you are on the program if you are deemed over 75% capable of working. Hey? I think I've come upon a great idea!

Would seem reasonable, but the ones that live on it because it is easier will never be on their feet. The ones that are on it because of situations out of their control, would gladly pay back when they get on their feet. Then We would be penalizing them for trying. You "borrowed" money, you should expect to pay it back, but I get your point. The real answer is to monitor The ones receiving assistance, and remove the cheaters.

Public assistance is difficult to get. I get $150 (USD) a month to eat - that's it. I have been disabled from a wreck for over a year, and still am not getting my disability (this is my own social security money). I'd be happy to pay back - but not my own monies.

They normally are. Either the father pays owed child support to the state, or the mother when she gets a job

YES, YES, YES. There are thousands receiving welfare who are living lavish lives. There too lies the corruption.
