Isn't the wearing of the veil rooted in ancient Islam to stop other men looking at other men's wives, and is a sign of weakness in men. It may also be practical in hot countries to wear a veil to stop sunburn. It is also a bit like a comfort blanket which is handy to hide behind. But do you really need it in Britain and the modern world, especially when you can get high factor suncream and women are treated as equals? I don't understand how you can communicate properly and mix with society without seeing facial expression. How can this be better?
What annoys me is that you get these folks who wear burkas, driving about and can't see properly for crossing junctions, reversing their cars, etc. Also, why do people need to hide their faces, I know it's a mark of seperation but surely a veil would be the best disguise to rob a bank, terrorise, etc, and seems to have no other practical use and you can shout 'discrimination'. Do they come in summer and winter editions for our changable weather.
Personally, when I was small and met middle eastern black veiled women for the first time, I was really scared as they seemed sinister to me, like evil monks or Darth Vadar, (my innocent child's impression.)
In Christianity, women had to wear head coverings and keep their hair long as a mark of respect (some still do), and going right back everyone had to wash their feet before dinner and entering a temple, but this hasn't stuck(I don't think). I am no expert on these things, but surely you move with what's appropriate for the times, and I don't think hiding behind a tablecloth is that practical anymore. I can't see how a piece of cloth can make somebody a better human, as it doesn't point to holiness for me, but fear. Surely good acts and treating everybody with respect, trying to do your best whatever your circumstances and embrace new cultures by meeting each other halfway, without taking advantage. It's a hard balance, life is tough and nobody is better than anybody else when it comes down to it, but the decisions you make define your 'good person' status, not a veil.

no that isn't the issue at all the issue is that the Muslims are segregating themselves from British society and causing tension which is then played upon by racist groups such as the BNP. For instance why do Muslims have to have their own council?why do areas become off limits to other races/religions when it is largely Muslim? this includes harassment to those that ain't of the same religion. Also the government does help the current situation. The woman in the paper that is arguing about it is a hypocrite she didn't wear the niqab(think that's the right spelling) in the interview, so why is it essential now?. This country is really messed up everyone should be equal I myself have been racially abused and I'm white but if i said owt and the person that gave the abuse said the shoe was on the other foot and that it was me........ who would be done for it me or him?
The basic problem with this country is that the political correctness has gone from stupid to ridiculus.

Some worshippers are sinners. Actually, most aren't. Most try really hard not to commit adultery, rob, thief, rape and what not. Otherwise it would be pointless going to church, woulnd't it?
We try, doesn't mean we succeed, but we try. And because we dotry, there are a hang of a lot less rapes, adultery, thievery etc etc in the world.
I'm not sure how the veil comes into it. That's just to make a political point.

Not so much better, than *less* of a human being, completely separating you from those you interact with. For the record I have no problems with the veil if that's what they wish to wear, but the furore over the classroom assistant is justified, and I do not think she should wear it teaching. Facial expressions form the majority (something like 80%) of how we communicate to each other.
And as an aside...bikers have to remove crash helmets to enter banks so they can be seen on CCTV etc. What about the veil?

People shouldn't be so pretensious. Everyone, stop wearing clothes unless it is cold outside! They are just a waste of money you could be spending on something useful. Boycott clothes now!!!
Geez, I hope you are half joking about the veil--let people make their own fashion and religious statements, no matter how silly they may seem to you. People who value security over freedom should bring back the soviet empire so they have a place to be comfortable.

Well sitting back and judging everybody else sure doesn't do it. Different people go to church for different reasons. We're all sinners. Speaking for myself I go to church to fellowship with other Christians and I feel closer to God. Churches are a hospital for sinners not a museum for saints.

donning the veil isn't approximately making you bigger, that's an act of obedience to what Allah has asked us to do. And going to church, mosque or despite the fact that would not make you appropriate, if it did we could basically might desire to pass as quickly as in our lives. lower back that's an act of obedience, giving ones time to attend, attempting to be greater effective. we isn't appropriate no rely how in lots of cases we attend church, placed on the veil, study the Koran or Bible. we can basically attempt, pray and ask Allah to forgive us as quickly as we fail. And Paula, donning the veil for us isn't some piece of rings, which by way of the way you ought to continually placed on below your outfits and it does no longer illicit remark. that's greater like a nun donning her habit, that's an element of who we are. additionally i do no longer think of which you would be able to get arrested in Turkey for donning shorts except they have been indecent. many of the Arab united states's do enable all people to dress as they like except that's indecent. I observed a Russian women folk on a Nile cruise in Egypt that had a skirt on so short she made me blush. And BTW i'm an American and wore mini skirts and tank tops till my conversion to Islam. i think of that's a tragic assertion that donning a bikini or something comparable in public does no longer get a similar volume of interest that dressing in a modest way and masking ones hair does. What does that say approximately us as a society?
