Why do some people presume SA is a backwards country. We don't have lions running around in the street , some people still think that. It is a beautiful country just crime is rife . People are well-educated and their are plenty of schools. Everybody in SA are aware of the Aids problem . It is advertised on tv, in newspapers, Huge signboards. It is mainly the African men that is stubborn and they will rape their woman if they refuse sex. The poor woman don't stand a chance.

Its the news unfortunatly, we hear about Jacob Zuma, and your health minister saying garlic and lemon helps prevent/cure AIDS.
We see pictures of the townships but also places like sun city/kruger. I have met a complete mixture, loads semm to have come to berkshire/surrey even my dentist is one!
Most people realise there are two economies in South Africa.

Been to SA from UK twice now, with 3 years in between.The second time there was a definite change in attitudes towards the black population, all to the good.
There were less hanging around as they were mostly working. Working in all sorts of jobs. All people there were so friendly and welcoming that I am going again in February.
The country side is spectacular and beautiful. The food when eating out is top class for reasonable cost. The wine I believe has no equal, not even the French.
Any one that goes must take a trip to Robbin Island where Mandela was imprisoned. You are show around by actual past inmates from the Apartheid era.
Table mountain is great particularly if you walk all along the top for about an hour. You see views that no one else sees by staying near the tourist area.

Race never mattered to me, but when people make racist remarks I cannot just sit back and keep quiet. As a fellow South African I must tell you that rape and other crimes occur accross the board and is not restricted to a specific race. I can mention names, but you should be aware of cases in our courts at this point in time.

44,187,637 people in South Africa. Most people over 15 can read and write. Because of AIDS, 21 percent have it, we think it is out of control
Add that all the TV we see is of the beautiful land and animals, and I see how we have a skewed perception.

it may be up to date but it is still a country in crisis thanks to the repression of the majority by the minority during apartheid crime is out of control but not only that but so are social conditions
