I have children and I wouldn't want anyone to buy me anything different than what they normally would for housewarming. You could try asking them what they need. I mean you can get cabinent door locks and the little covers for plug-ins to make the house kid safe, but those aren't very fun gifts. They probably had a baby shower and have pretty much everything they need for the baby anyway. Just get them something you would buy yourself. Maybe visit first to see what colors the rooms are decorated in or the color of their furniture.

Something for the couple and not for the baby as they will have enough stuff for the baby brought round by people. It's nice to be remembered as "people" occasionally and not just as "parents". What about a nice bottle of Champagne and some choccies to enjoy when the little one has gone down finally.

CD of soothing music and aromatherapy candles (to de-stress)
A nice washable rug
Some plaque or picture referencing family
Gift cert. to a store where they can get kid friendly furniture and decor (Target, Pier 1, IKEA) - along with a small item from that store so you're not just giving a gift card
Kitchen utensils and/or dishes - they will use a lot more dishes now

How about a nice photo frame? If they plan to stay in the house for a long time how about a fruit tree for the garden?

There is some cool stuff on here, I bought something as a house warming gift for a girly pal of mine about 6 months ago.
The stuff they sell is quite quirky though, so it kinda depends on your friends personality?X
Have a great day
