As long as you are not trying to pull off a black dress shoe, and wearing a shirt and tie with your jeans, white socks will be fine.

Yes very wrong. TACKY really tacky, Scrubbish actually. Only wear white socks with sports shoes, socks should be the same colour has the shoes

No I dont think its wrong to wear white socks with black shoes, I just wore some yesterday with black shoes. I think you can wear any color socks that u want as long as they are clean.

No prob with the white socks and jeans. But it's the black shoes. But if you have to, make sure you're female and they're thin cotton socks :-)

Lots of people do it all the time and I think that's because it's not likely anyone would care to notice anyway. What's the chance of someone picking up jeans to check out your socks ? lol. Having said that though, when my relatives go anywhere or travel places they get me to chose their socks :o. I would have probably picked a deep dark blue or black pair of sports socks to go with the jeans and shoes/trainers.

I would wear black or dark brown socks. The white socks will really stand out.

In the 1970's what you describe was almost a uniform for the lower teenager of the time. When they were in a large group watching them walk together was quite a spectacle with the contrast of the flashing white socks.

White socks = Gym
Black socks = Everything else.
If you are desperate and the jeans long enough you could possibly get away with it.
