I sleep during the day and work at night. All I have are blinds. I did use foil and it did work for the most part, but I have to take it down. It is against the apartment rules.
Does anyone one know of a good think curtain to keep out the light and the draft?

I use a blackout liner which is a white drapery lining panel used to block light and drafts. I bought mine by the yard at a discount fabric store and finished the edges, but ready made panels are available at many stores where curtains are sold.

A set of good, thick curtains (especially a fabric like corduroy, chenile, wool, thick cotton) will block the light nicely. You can have lining sewn into any curtains to do the trick. There is also a special black-out foil like material used in theater. All you really need, though, is some heavy fabric.

You may also try having shutters installed (inside) or a shoji screen.
