The Republicans lost control of what they thought was their Country. Democrats haven't made them act, and do what they have done for the last 10 years, or more. Failure is imminent...

There's many Republicans who do not like Bush. Are hardcore republicans the same as the neo-conservatives???

I think they are defensive because of the war and the Foley scandal. Here's another question, what is the October Surprise going to be???

You hit it right on the head. Republicans have controlled the Congress for over a decade -- Bush has never known a Congress that had real power to oppose him. Aside from the fact that the majority party usually loses seats in mid-terms elections anyway.....the Republicans this time around are extra nervous because of additional mitigating factors....so - yes - no one wants to give up power voluntarily - so you can bet they'll be on the defensive right up until the bitter end.

I don't know any hard core republicans, but we should have all the answers Nov. 8th.

Not defensive--scared-- any sane person would be with the thought of Pesoli being speaker. She is a wack job. I am also wondering what socialist path they think they will lead us down. A lot of the Dems are members openly members of the socialist party............Pesoli leads the list. I don't think 'real' Dems pose as much danger to our country as the Socialists do. And yes, that frightens me.

It's scary to think of Nancy Pelosi being 3rd in line for the Presidency. We should all be defensive. Including the wackiest liberals out there.

Probably because of how many times they are attacked by Democrats. I get defensive, and I'm not even a Republican!

They are in the water closet of life and the voters have the shinny handle ,waiting to pull it and flush the republicans down the drain .

I'm an independent but have been voting republican for quite a while. I, for one, am on the offense. LOOK AT WHAT THE LEFT WINGERS WANT FOR THE NEXT SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE::::Consider the following votes (all opposed by the vast majority of Americans):
On July 31, 1996, Pelosi voted against the historic Welfare Reform Bill and later voted against its reauthorization;
On July 19, 2006, Pelosi voted against protecting the right to say "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance;
On Sept. 20, 2006, Pelosi voted against requiring that voters be identified so we could ensure only legal citizens are voting;
On July 13, 2006, Pelosi voted against requiring English on ballots;
On June 30, 2005, Pelosi refused to side with homeowners against the Kelo decision
that allows cities to seize private property for profitable ventures,
even though 365 members voted to stop cities from taking private property.
Pelosi has voted at least 12 times against the death penalty;
Pelosi was one of only 67 House members to vote against the 1996
Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA);
Pelosi has voted at least eight times against banning partial-birth abortion,
at least three times against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (Laci's law),
and scored a perfect 100 percent rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America;
Pelosi voted against a bill that would "[b]ar the transportation of a minor girl
across state lines to obtain an abortion without the consent of a parent, guardian or judge;"
Pelosi voted at least 31 times for using local or federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortions; and
Pelosi received an "F" rating from the National Rifle Association. I'M NOT THROUGH WITH OLD NANCY YET. LOOK AT THIS::::::::::::::::::::::Pelosi voted three times to make a convicted page sexual predator,
former Congressman Gerry Studds (D-Mass.), chair of a congressional committee.
In 1990, Pelosi voted against censuring Barney Frank for having his live-in boyfriend
run a prostitution ring from Frank's apartment.
Pelosi raised no objections when Clinton pardoned Democrat Congressman Mel Reynolds (Ill.)
who had been convicted of felonies for having had sex with a 16-year-old campaign worker.
The historic Nancy Pelosi is an authentic representative of San Francisco liberal values and hardly
has the record to lecture anyone on cleaning up the Congress

The end of the world is more accurate than you think. Maybe we could hug the terrorists and they will stop. All they need is love and attention, right. Please! we are in trouble if Libs take over.
