I'm not actually talking about any person in specific, I'm speaking about the class of work, the job, not an actual entertainer. So what people classify being a Doctor, lawyer, etc as role models? If a person has talent then they should pursue it so for all of you folks that think someone who can sing, play a piano, and all sorts of entertaining is not role models for children who would like to pursue such careers need a reality check. I asked the question of Beyonce or Alicia who is a better role model and I got all these responses about how an entertainer is not a real role model, well please explain to me why not. I can definitely understand why some specific entertainers are not, but the job itself is not good enough for children? if we get more strong willed entertainers such as Alicia maybe the entertainment business will become better role model material for our children, unlike these useless ones we have now, i.e. Paris Hilton etc.

I think that as a society, we are the one's choosing who our celebrities are and who our role models for our youth are. When we continue to watch complete garbage on television and to listen music that degrades women and glorifies violence, we are telling the entertainment industry that this is what we want to see. The industry is all about making money, so they will give us whatever sells best, thereby promoting the "artists" making this crap into stardom. So we're now stuck with Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears and Flava Flav all over the place for our kids to look up at. So what do we expect the youth to look to if that's all we put before them. If we choose entertainment that is intellegent and reflective, as well as entertaining, the celebrities that rise to the top will provide a better example for everyone. It's also important that parents emphasize the distinction between celebrity and say, an actor's behaviors in real life. Personally, I'd rather watch LOST and THE WEST WING and be looking up to people struggling to help each other survive on an island or run a country with integrity than to watch THE SIMPLE LIFE or JACKASS, any day of the week.

Actors and singers are putting on a facade for the public. They have to act a particular role or sing a particular way in order to fit in to their genre
.
This is not why they are role models. Now if their personal life is something to be worthy of calling them role models, like they are Philanthropists, volunteer their time to worthwhile charities, etc., then it's possible for them to be a role model.

Just my way of thinking but I have both a son and daughter, and as I try to steer them towards a career path in life I want them to have something they can have sucess at. For the 1 performer that makes a living at it, there are 1000 that are "struggling". Now I encourage my children to follow there dreams, but when reality closes in, most times being an entertainer wont put food on the table.

they endorse certain products or be spokemen of certain foundations yet they don't project that image in real life which only proves they're JUST good actors BUT NOT good example for the public.
