In the UK
It's illegal for you to give alcohol to children under 5 (unless it's medical)
If you're under 14 you're not allowed in a pub/bar unless it has a suitable licence. This also includes beer gardens and family rooms.
At 14 you can enter a bar or pub but only if the landlord agrees and if you drink soft drinks (this can include low-alcohol beer).
If you're 16 or 17 you can buy or be bought beer or cider with a meal.
If you're under 18 you can't buy alcohol, anywhere, unless it's the above.
If you're over 18, it's illegal for you to buy alcohol for mates under 18.

It appears, according to Texas law, that although it is a crime (by the minor) - there is a specific defense (meaning generally, no conviction if proved)
§ 106.04. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL BY A MINOR. (a) A minor
commits an offense if he consumes an alcoholic beverage.
(b) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this
section that the alcoholic beverage was consumed in the visible
presence of the minor's adult parent, guardian, or spouse.
also see...
§ 106.05. POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL BY A MINOR. (a) Except as
provided in Subsection (b) of this section, a minor commits an
offense if he possesses an alcoholic beverage.
(b) A minor may possess an alcoholic beverage:
(1) while in the course and scope of the minor's
employment if the minor is an employee of a licensee or permittee
and the employment is not prohibited by this code;
(2) if the minor is in the visible presence of his
adult parent, guardian, or spouse, or other adult to whom the minor
has been committed by a court; or ....
Your state law may be different...

In most Canadian provinces, a parent can serve alcohol to a minor if the child is in the private residence and the child is their own. It is still illegal to buy for a minor in any case.

No particular age for "sacramental wine" even in the USA.
For anything else you'd have to look to state law, but I would think that for small amounts of alcohol in a family situation enforcement of the minimum age (21) is unlikely.
But what do I know. Where I live if you're tall enough to put the money on the bar you're old enough to drink.

It is against UK law to purchase or drink alcohol under the age of 18.
The same law applies to licensed premises and your own house.
It is also against the law to buy or supply alcohol to a minor you know or suspect to be under 18

In the US it's 21, actually. And it's the same for the home. But people still drink in there homes because they figure that inside there own homes they can't be caught.
