In brief, there are two major reasons for studying child psychology.
Firstly, at the academic level, the behaviour and mental processes of the child are key to understanding people develop psychologically, giving important insights into how the midn is stuctured. Think here of the work of two hugely important thinkers in Psychology, Freud and Piaget. Freud's psychology is largely based on the successive development in the child of the Id, Ego and Superego. Piaget described in detail how the thought of the child, including language and numerical skills, develops. as he claimed, through a series of stages occuring in an invariant order and involving qualitative differences in the way the young person thinks. The young child does not just speak less well than the older one or the adult, (s)he speaks in different ways.
Secondly, children are a large proportion of the poulation and have their own needs for applied psychology. It follows from the findings of academic psychology I have very very briefly indicated above that psychologists cannot just apply the same knowledge and techniques they use with adults to help children: they need to use specific knowledge and skills in work with children. Because
psychological development is so crucial to later life it is particularly important to deal with any psychological issues affecting the person whilst they are in childhood: it is not infrequently possible to address psychological problems then that are impossible to put right later.
Finally, the behaviour and thought of the child is fascinating - ask any parent.

Psychology is the study of behavioral and mental processes and an amazing social science which is scientific in nature..Children,according to most people are very difficult to understand especially during the formative years , psychology{child} helps come to terms with it and strikes an understanding with the child and the guardian/parent.

To better understand the children and help them in the long run, so they arent so freaking freaky in the future. To mainly cure them before they reach adult age.

we study a child because we learn how the brain learns. we take a child with a fresh brain and experiment with it to figure out how each part of the brain works.
