I've got a sort of mole/growth at the bottom of my back that looks like a pink rice crispie!!! Had it about 5 years now... My sister had one under her nose and had it removed for cosmetic reasons... Its not dangerous is it?

A mole can't harm you...unless it is carrying a gun

I actually went and had a couple of moles checked yesterday, and got some good advice there. Basically, the things to look out for are changes in shape, size or colour, and especially very rapid changes. If a mole or growth stays the same, and is regular in colour and shape it is likely to be ok.

You should definitely get it checked though, 5 minutes with your doctor will put your mind at rest.

Probably not.

Just keep a watch on it. There are symptoms which show the presence of skin cancer including spots or moles which:

• changes in size
• develops an irregular shape
• develops an irregular colour
• becomes inflames
• oozes
• develops an ulcer
• feels different to touch

Don’t jump to conclusions and panic- the mere presence of one of these signs doesn't necessarily mean you have developed skin cancer. However, to ensure your peace of mind and also ensure you receive early treatment, you should always visit a dermatologist or doctor to have it checked

The general rules with moles, that is if they're symmetrical, and aren't generally changing (colour, size, tenderness) then they're okay. However, such information gleaned from daytime TV is by no means an accurate diagnosis. Go see GP, he may want a tissue sample sent to the lab for analysis.

It's highly unlikely that a mole that's been around for 5 years is dangerous. It's the ones that suddenly appear, and are itchy, that are more likely to be melanoma. However, visit your doctor. They won't laugh at you for asking them.

It could be a melanoma go and see your GP,most clinics can remove them there without going to hospital.I had a melanoma removed early enough and didn't have to have anymore treatment as it was caught early,I now stay out of the sun.

Has it changed at all in the past five years? You should take into consideration the size, shape and color. Does it itch or hurt? You might want to get it checked out by a dermatologist just to be sure.

It's a 'tab'. When there's friction against the skin - usually happens to fair-skinned people. Is it where your collar rubs against you? I have one under my arm (they're ugly, arent they?) where my bra rubs against me. I've been told that you can get rid of 'em by tying a thread around it really tight, thus depriving it of blood, which is what it needs to keep it alive. It supposedly takes several days. I tried it but couldn't get the string around it tight enough and it kept sliding off. I don't bother with it any more 'cause it doesn't really bother me that much.

Has the mole grown or changed appearance lately, is it irritable? most moles are quite harmless but if you have concerns then a simple check by your GP can put your mind at rest

if you are concerned about your mole get it checked out .

in all probability. it will be benign (not a problem ) ,
as it has been there for years

but ,to be on the safe side , go see your Doctor
so he can reassure you, it is not dangerous.
all best

Most likely not but if you're concerned go to the docs and they can check it out. that's what they're there for! my mum has one that i think is the same on her neck and she keeps catching her necklace on it making it bleed so she's off to the docs next week to have it removed!
