There is a way you could get a subdomain, but not a complete domain name. If you go to www.dyndns.com, you can sign up for dynamic webhosting - you can host the website on a computer at home, and use the domain yourname.dyndns.org to access it.

There will be other ways - the .tk top level domain is used quite a lot for free domain names. You'll have to read into this yourself, as I'm not sure what the conditions are. It may be worth a look though.

Good Luck!

Your not going to get a domain name for free. The best you can get for free would be a myspace account where your domain is going to look like www.myspace.com/

If you want a domain name that looks like www. .com or .net your going to have to purchase it. It is not that expensive and usually you buy the domain name for a few years.

As for hosting your going to have to consider what your website needs as far as hosting server resources. PHP? ASP? JSP? or just plain old javascript and HTML.

You might want to look at www.bravenet.com

I don't recall at the top of my head, but I believe AOL and Microsoft BETA offer free domains with something. However, there might be strings attached.

Better you register your domain names and PAY for them with any provider you choose. You will have a SAY on things if you pay for it.

For .com domain names, I can safely recommend namecheap.com. But if you're willing to pay extra for support and security, then go with moniker.com.
