I have a COGECO high speed line, that i share with four people via wireless router. Notmaly it gives no pain, but whenever i run ares the network disconnects every few minutes. it says no connection available and and a few seconds later it reconnects again. And it not only happens to me, everyones connection gets disconnected when i run ares, the same way my connection disconnects. Can anyone tell me what to do so that i can run my ares properly.

OK the reason is because ares uses a lot of bandwidth so it sucks all the bandwidth on the network all you have to do is configure ares to use less bandwidth and then you will be alright.

Note: This following tip will not work on XP Home Edition.

1. Make sure you're logged on as actually "Administrator". Do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.

2. Start > Run > type gpedit.msc (not available in home version).

3. Expand the Local Computer Policy branch.

4. Expand the Administrative Templates branch.

5. Expand the Network branch.

6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window.

7. In right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting.

8. On setting tab check the ENABLED item.

9. Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0 (ZERO).

10. Close gpedit.msc.

Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot.

Laff. It's because you're attempting to do something that's either illegal or prohibited on your ISP.

A lot of ISP's will drop your connection periodically if they detect P2P file sharing.

Here's how to stop it...
