The level of division in our country *due* to politics is my concern. I would have to say that at no time in history has the sanctity of our country been more threatened. We can't live blindly that our country is unified to the point that nothing bad can happen to us. We all need to start seeing that and putting our differences aside for the sake of our country.

Are there people on both sides of the political arena who feel this same way? If so, what should we do?

I am an independent that has been voting mostly republican for the past 15 to 20 years and I feel this way. In fact, I have addressed the problem on this site before. One trouble with putting our differences aside is that there are so many that do not believe that united we stand-divided we fall. They think that there should be dissension come hell or high water. They are unwilling to compromise and do not realise that to disagree with someone you do not need to disrespect or hate them or that you can discuss the disagreements rationally and compromise or even reverse opinions and agree where you had disagreed. Too many people have opinions that are not supported by facts but only gut feelings or what they have read in a blog. Because it is in writing, they actually believe it. Hell, I bet half of the people on this site don't even know who Nancy Pilosi is. I do not know what to do about it but I shall continue to express my opinion and try to show others why I think the way I do.

The Division came when Clinton was elected. He's a socialist liberal and most people see him for the pig liar that he is. He certainly is no friend of America. It was his leftist regime that finally woke up the silent majority. Many refer to them as the Christian Right. They realized their silence was not getting them anywhere and now they will not be silenced again. I don't know how to bring this country back when the democrats promote the likes of Clinton, Dean, Kerry, and Kennedy. When the left have hero's like michael moore and cindy sheehan. The democrats need to find their roots and it's not in the pro-socialist gang that are running their party today.

I think the answers to this post are telling you that people can't put aside their differences for the sake of country. The people here cannot put aside their pure and utter hatred of Bush or Clinton to find commonalities among us. Anarchism is not the answer. Even all the peace and love folks of the sixties spew venom these days. We are all human beings but most importantly we are all Americans in this country. Let's remember that first - above all else!

Well I think allot of it is because of the (Your either with us or against us attitude) the present administration has portrayed, with all the changes passed in Media Ownership ,There used to be a law that said both parties would have equal time on TV, they don't any more, then they used to have very strict laws concerning media ownership so that the media was split with both left and right in each market area, that law is no longer there either. Look at all the labels allot of the media is throwing out there, like LIBERAL in very negative views, how many Pro-Right Commentary shows are out there, 95% of them are Pro Right, , between Rush and all of fox and many others, . I don't think the Left is attacking the far right as a whole but things the far right does, while the far right blast anyone against them a big liberal. I was always taught to be one of those independent thinkers and to NEVER follow a political party blindly. If you really think about it, how many people do you see blasting anyone against bush and calling them liberals, but they complain about the media being to liberal, the same media that taught them to hate liberals,MMMMMMMMMM

A house divided cannot stand. Good observation, but it's more important for people to stand against what's becoming an ever more tyrannical government at this point in time, IMO.

Your question answers your question. Unfortunately, the end is inevitable. This country is weak and way too soft to survive the attacks that are coming.

We have to unite against the erosion of civil liberties. How we do that is hard to imagine.
