...Big Cats? I have an unrelated degree but want a life change and really want to work with the big cats, I'd be happy just to sweep out the cages in a zoo or other menial tasks around them. Ideally I'd like to progress on to working with them in the wild, although obviously my local city zoo is probably the best starting point.

But will a zoo let me work with the cats straight away if I have no prior experience?

Thanks!

I sure hope not, you need training. Just remember the very experienced Roy of Seigfried and Roy who was seriously injured three years ago.

Can't think of a zoo which would 'throw you to the lions'. You could be lunch! Are there still zoos which keep their big cats in cages?

Why not contact a job adviser at your local job centre? Tell him/her you're reconsidering your future and feel you would really love to work with wild animals, he might be able to point you in teh right direction. I don't know that a zoo would say "Sure in you get (With the lion). Job adviser might be able to tell you training opportunities and job placements to start off.

You could contact either of these, www.woburnsafaripark.co.uk or www.bornfree.org.uk, The Born Free foundation is always looking for volunteers and Woburn Abbey has a big cat park and maybe it might be the place to start off at, good luck.

Why don't you contact the London Zoo and speak to whoever is in charge there. They might be able to help you and if not they will be able to give you the names of others to contact. Good-luck:))
