Baseball is the only sport in which there is a champagne celebration after each round of playoffs. I can understand doing it after winning the LCS, because you become the league champion and it's kind of a throwback to a time when the two leagues were truly separate and a league championship meant something on its own. But after the first round, you haven't won anything. Could you imagine football, basketball and hockey teams spraying champagne after winning an early playoff round?

maybe that is why baseball is considered america's pasttime. they celebrate each step in winning it all because they understand that there are alot of teams that did not make it that far.

Baseball is a grueling162 game season. There is nothing more bitter than losing in the 1st round after all those games. Therefore, winning the 1st round is a major relief and deserves a champagne celebration. However, I believe the Tiger went overboard with their celebration in their 1st round win against my Yankees.

I'm still rooting for Detroit.

Well lets see they play 162 games, thats a marathon and usually the best team comes out on top after that many games. Right there is a reason to Celebrate, and advancing through the playoffs is worth Celebrating (you never know when if ever you are going to be in that position again). There has been to many GREAT GREAT players that never get to play in the POST-SEASON to name, so soak it up boys party till the cows come home for tomorrow we DIE.

I agree, I don't get the champagne celebrations after the first round of MLB playoffs.

All I can say is that they are happy that they are not out of it yet and they still have a chance to go to the world series. I would say that it looks good on TV, but the first reason seems smarter.

that silly not all teams do that in baseball . only the wild cards teams who no one expect to win do that . not the championship team who have been there before.
