king = lion (king of the beasts, of course)
queen = she-wolf
bishop = owl (wise and flies zigzag)
knight = has to be a horse
castle = rhinoceros (strong and armored)
pawn = frog (it can hop far for its first move and attacks diagonally with it's tongue.)

Pawns - ants (moves slow, easy to kill)
Rooks - Cheetah (goes long distances in a straight line)
Knights - Kangaroos (hops a lot, packs a punch)
Bishops - Owls (long distances, more manoevreable)
Queen - Eagles (long distances, unlimited movement)

In India, we already have this alternate naming scheme ;-)
Castle: Elephant
Knight: Horse (duh)
Bishop: Camel
Pawn: Soldier(human of course)
The King and Queen are the same.
