A great idea would be to teach yourself Punjabi via the internet. Have a look at these websites.

1. Punjabielm Language Tutor [audible words only] http://www.punjabielm.co.uk/tutor/
2. Punjabi Network [downloadable lessons and fonts] http://www.punjabi.net/punjab/literature.htm
3. Punjab Online [audible alphabet, extensive vocabulary and basic grammar] http://www.punjabonline.com/servlet/library.language
4. My Language Exchange [to learn Punjabi online by practising with a native speaker who is learning your language] http://www.mylanguageexchange.com/Learn/Punjabi.asp

I hope this is useful and good luck.

I don't speak the language, but have friends that do. They have taught me the following but I don't know what they mean (I'm sure they're rude knowing them!):-

Spelt phonetically,

1. Giddah
2. Jullar
3. Mahr Jord
4. Ban Jord
5. Mahrdi Poodi
