But what about this?
There was a young man called Mark,
Who was awful afraid of the dark.
After a couple of beers,
He confronted his fears,
And quark lark stark bark cark.
Nice limerick by the way.

I disagree. Like anything learned with creativity, poetry and perhaps even all written text should be viewed as an expression of our language regardless of how crude it may seem. I think if a person is reading poetry they should always consider the source and time period. The same principle could be applied to writing posts on the Internet. Every post tells a little bit more about the person behind the paragraph.

No. Poetry surrounds you daily. It's a sad thing when you can't see it.
A poem is nothing but a recollection of a feeling or experience. Do you not feel? Do you not recall the sense of dread each day, as you race along the freeway, ignoring the possibility that once, just once, you could be crushed and mangled by metal, snuffed out by the rush?
Deny it, but the poetry is there. It tickles the tears from your eyes when you sleep.

There is every place for poetry;
So, with you, I disagree.
Actually, I used writing poetry as therapy after the deaths of two of my sons. It really helped me to be able to put my thoughts and feelings in writing. :-)

No. Poetry is a mood thing... and truthfully I don't enjoy poetry... probably because we had to analyze it so much in English class...

Some of the greatest things have poetic beauty. doesn't have to be a poem. It could be something that happened or that you see. Beauty is poetry to the eye. or a historic speech could be peotic-
What about MLK jr.'S " I have a dream" speech.

Although I hear your wailing cry, there's just one thing you can't deny:although you'd hope it'd go away, poetry is here to stay.
