In order to find something that has gone missing, or you have just mislaid somewhere that you cannot figure out now where that somewhere is than you need to think, feel and be like the object of your inquiry as closely as you can. As the ancient wisdom says that if your horse has gone missing than the best way to find it is to think like one.
I know this could be very frustrating when we simply do to find something that simply should be there for us. The general state of mind associated with this is called frustration. Frustration is the number one enemy of concentration, and therefore a major obstacle in the way of your intuitive and sensory perceptibility.
So, sit back, relax, and say the name of the thing you are looking for gently and ever so more sweetly many a times; and than try to feel what does it feel like to be that special thing. Does this sound mad? May be, it does. But it does not look as mad as scurrying around frantically turning everything upside down, does it?

I find things I am looking for when I've forgotten I'd lost the thing in the first place and am actually looking for a different lost thing. Replacing the lost thing with a new one tends to make the old one turn up too.

do a lost and found spell, duh..
Spoken as needed when you have lost something:
"Bound and Binding
Binding, Bound
See the sight
Hear the sound
What was lost
Now is found
Bound and Binding
Binding, Bound"
Then think of what the object looks like and how it sounds.
or
Whenever you can't find something and you're in a rush just chant:
"Wolves and Fairies, dragons and ghosts,
help me find the thing I need most.
My _________ is lost, cannot be found,
whether lost above or below the ground.
Bring it back to me, SO MOTE IT BE!"
This chant works really well but sometimes things aren't meant to be found.
or
Something I lost I need to find; By the power of three, this spell I bind."
or
Earth, air, water, fire, help me find what I desire
Candle, cup, wind, seed, help me find what need
Remember to think about what you want to find very hard.

Think like the lost object as in "now where would I be if I were said object? Retrace your steps. Maybe whatever is lost is suppose to be lost. Maybe subconsciously you lost it for a reason. Let it go and if it's meant to be found, it will. If you lost your dignity you can always get it back. Lose your virginity? Congratulations. Lose self respect? Forgive yourself... you'll get it back. Lose your religion? Then it was never the right one to begin with. Lose a contact lens? Go with glasses.....gives you more character. Lose a tooth? Stick a chicklet in it. Lose pocket change? Check the sofa. Lose the shirt off your back in a poker game? Go naked. Don't sweat the loss, appreciate your gains.

First, dismiss the feeling of panic you might have, and think positively; "It isn't Lost, it is HERE somewhere." Think about where you were the last time you remember having it. Then, try to retrace your steps looking all around that area. If it has been lost before, look in the area where it was found then. Focus your mind on the item as if it is magnetic and you are metal. Sounds hokey, but it works for me.

Double sided sword type of question.??
If it is a tangible item, back track your steps and look for it, or just buy a new item. If it is more like an emotional or spiritual consciousness you lost, it will take time, and it won't be the same feelings. And when you do feel it again, it will be different---wiser, stronger, deeper and in some cases, harder for other people to penetrate. But you already know that, and more.

by not looking for it.
that is the most obvious paradox.
one can only encounter what is not to be seen if one is not looking for it - makes sense, no?
so when people say you'll find love when you're not looking for it, they are actual rephrasing this truthful paradox.
more objectively you can always trace your steps back and try and rememer Not Where but Why you lost it! (i.e. a pair of scissors you lost in the bathroom - Because you were cutting your hair).

Try under the bed...
Or if you're not looking for a sock...
If it's innocence, you can never get it back.
If it's love, you will get it back if it's meant to be & if not, you won't but you will find something better.
Whatever it was, retrace your steps. Think of how or why you lost it. If you are meant to find it again, you will.

Well if you happened to be Catholic, or know of the faith, you might offer a prayer to St. Anthony.
You might consider that the "Something" LOST you?
You might also consider that anything you lose,,,will always, or ultimately be, in the last place you look.
