I've been out of the UK for a year (been in the Far East) - so I've got 12 months of music to catch up on...

Which new indie bands should I be checking out??

I like The Arctic Monkeys, Pixies, Kasabian, Stone Roses, Magic Numbers, Radiohead, Libertines, The Strokes, etc... to give you an idea of the sort of bands I like.

Cheers!

Also the Fratellis are good, and I'm liking The Holloways - "Generator" is a great track. Also the Automatic, I absolutely adore Babybird. Even if they are not new, their latest album is superb. I suggest checking out CDBaby.com if you want to find good new music. You can browse by style, by location, and even by cover art.

That said, I'd also recommend looking into DeVotchKa, The Happies and maybe the Modern Skirts, but those are all American bands.

As I said, though, check out CDBaby.

I would say make a point of hitting the gigs. the small ones like the 12 bar and the hope and anchor in london and the smaller gigs in your neighbourhood/city. At this point in production if it's got an album in the main shops then by definition its not independent as its been signed,

Panic are from Las Vegas just to clear that up.

'The View' are bubbling under 'Ok Go!' have a nice sound, 'Milburn' are from the same part of the country as Artics , may be worth a listen
