aww, now you have to go and analyze good deeds? :)

best guess is to put yourself in their shoes. how would you feel if the identical task was offered under the same circumstances?

next best shot might be if you only wanted to help because it seemed like the natural thing to do... someone was in need (or you perceived it that way) and human nature called you to step in and lend a hand. has the human condition gotten away from that? wait, don't answer that...

the farmer's almanac guide to plain old polite says just go ahead and do it, and never mind the repercussions. as long as your intentions are pure, you'll sleep soundly tonight. those who have a beef will be up at 3 AM wailing and gnashing their teeth and giving you a thumbs-down for trying.

Sometimes people don't have to ask for help in order to convey to you they need help. Is opening a door for an old woman a superiority complex?
Have you ever seen the movie "Pay It Forward"?
Some people help others because it's the right thing to do.
What's wrong with feeling good about helping someone?
If that person in turn helps someone else and feels good about himself, is that a bad thing?

Depends on situation and the person who is helped(his tolerance to unasked help)...
No question of superiority complex at all.. help is what humans do for each other, and if without expectation, no residual ego problem !

It depends on the situation you are in. Some times it looks good. But some times others may think you are showing your superiority over them. So act judiciously.

What situation? Era? Place? These are relevant questions. But my answer would most likely be "No" regardless.

Just look at us helping out Iraqis. Some helpers we are. The country is now in more chaos that it has ever been. Even though it was Saddam who kept it in bloody order.

We also tried to help Korea, Viet Nam, and a multitude of other nations.

To expand a bit on Deputy's answer - have you ever considered that the reason some folks don't ask for help is because they don't want it? Think of (and I hate to say it) typical Christian Missionary work. Particularly, the ones that not only help, but at the same time trying to "educate" and "indoctrinate" the poor savages on teachings of Christ. WHO NEEDS THIS KIND OF HELP? Hundreds of cultures and indigenous peoples were lost to this kind of help.

Just one guy's opinion - that's all.

It would depend on the circumstances. No point giving advice or offering help when it isn't welcomed. Except in the case where someone is a danger to himself or others, in which case you would want to intervene whether he wanted your help or not. Someone's words or actions may be construed as a cry for help even if this is not what was intended.

It wouldn't be out of a sense of superiority, but care & concern.

There are people who due to thier self respect dont want you to help them,

But they are still in need of help.

Wont you like to help them ?

A person having sup complex will not help a person without any reason.

While if you help somebody without expecting something in return
will be a HELP.

So keep on helping my dear whether you have been asked for or not.

Keep it up.........

helping people is a great thing to do. not many people do that these days because they realised that few people appriciate it and thats why as days pass the number of kind and helpful people are reduced dramatically. sometimes this kind of help is done to show off or to show a certain person that you are kind and respectful for him to love you or say that you are nice. sometimes people really like to do it because they know that god will grant them good things if they did that so i really think that helping people who didnt ask for help is compulsory because even if they really dont deserve it but you are gaining love from god and those who deserve and in this way more good people will appear and that will strengthen the bonds between the society and this surely will lead to big improvements and developments to our world!!!!

That depends on the individual & the circumstances.
Some people like to be helped without having to ask where as others won't appreciate it at all - they may view it as interfereing.

For example, helping an old lady cross the road:
1) She will appreciate you for helping.
or
2) You are taking away her independance.

Being helpful is a great virtue. Sometimes you go to help someone without having been asked to do so.
But in the modern times it is better to ofer help only if you are asked to. Chances of being misunderstood are more.
