If so, Procordine would usually do the job for me but it would have to be prescribed by a GP. The cordine you can get from pharmacies are not as strong.
Alternatively, Silomat is also good for dry cough and you can get that from pharmacies over the counter. (if I remember correctly, it's for dry cough, but you may want to check with the pharmacist at the counters.)

Eucalyptus steam. Boil water, remove from heat, add hand full of eucalyptus leaves or a few drops of E oil, cover, steep 5 mins or so, remove cover, cover with towel, breath the steam.
good luck...oh, it will make you hack up all the bad crud quick.

A shot of brandy is what my gramma gave me when I was younger. Now, I'm not a fan of brandy... I use Buckley's and it does about the same.
