A long while but your weight and age will play a part in it. The knees are the hardest to recover from if injured or replaced.

Don't rush things...
They will have you walking on it as soon as you are able. A few days only. You will be given physio exercises to do and should be mobile enough for work in a few weeks [2 to 4 weeks]
But it really depends how old you are though... If you are young and enjoy sports... you will probably be able to start serious exercise again in just over 2 to 3 months. But be warned - you will have serious muscle wastage. Your injured leg will get very thin!

My mother had this process done awhile back, she is a thin active woman and in decent shape. The time it took her to fully recover and become toally mobile again was around 2-3 weeks

Alot of it will depend on how well you heal and take care of the knee cap post operatively.
I would guess that it would take 6-8weeks.
What does your Dr say?
