I know I would not have taken the job at any age - so have great admiration for a woman who, when so very young pledged that she would serve our country for as long as she lived. We can all knock the monarchy but ask yourself this would you really want the job - yes i know some will say 'of course I would - living in all that splendour with flunkies attending to your every need BUT think about it - your every move watched closely by the worlds press - can you imagine it!! Look how she has carried on with great dignity while her sons first marriage breakdown and all that surrounded it was thrashed out in the public eye - this alone would have bought most average Mums to the point of breakdown - so we all amke contributions toward HM remaining on her throne but just look at what she has to do for her salary - she even had to sacrifice time spent with her young family all those years ago - never has she complined about it -( unlike so many other working Mums ) And yes like every other family there are problems but still she has remained cool calm and dignified acting in the best interest of the country she had so solemnly vowed to serve all her days - she has served her country for over 50 years - she doesnt get to retire like most working folk and guess what we are the envy of most of world for having her - tourists flock to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle hoping to get just a glimpse of our sovereign what does that say about her!!!

Whats her purpose of being on the throne? We don't need the royal family we have the parliament who control the country. The royal family only seem to be living on our hard working taxes. Every Xmas she does a speech, I'm not interested i flip the channel over to the music channels. She's booring, the only person I would say who deserved my respect was Princess Diana of Wales and her eldest son William not the younger one Harry.
God bless the Queen whats with the anthem? Its more like God bless me coz I wanna live for as long as I can!!

Republic! Republic!, the real heir to the throne runs a sheep farm or something in Australia. The windsors changed their name from Wilheim during the first world war. The British Royal family is full of Germans and Greeks. But she's harmless and Prince Phillip is good for cringe making comedy value.

What does she actually do? Princess Di was in the news for helping charities etc, etc... The rest only seem to get in the news nowadays, for getting married, joining the Navy or when something bad happens. So can't comment, because to a non-UK citizen it seems as if she really doesn't do much. Maybe Tony Blair is hogging all the lime light!

an inspiration to all. She has had some rough times. But come powering through. the british have always taken to a female monarch. look at elizabeth I, Queen Victoria. etc. It fit because the UK loves a Matriarch.

The issue is nothing to do with money. More to the point is that is it appropriate to have a privileged, non elected, figure head leading a modern European democracy?

I ithnk she's a bit dazed. She can't believe she is still getting away with it in 2006
Its a bit of a sweeping statement for someone to say "an inspiration to all". Well, if you don't mind, I'm one fo the "all" and she's not an inspiration to me.
How did the royal family line get to be in power ? Because they proved to be the best at theft, conspiricy , threats and terrorising everyone else. Not today, but its hardly an ancestory to be proud of.

Dont really think about her, but believe she is the last of the true royals as all the others have been involved in affairs scandals. However, I dont think we should have a Monarchy.

I think she needs to kick it up a notch. Botox, face lift, boob job, lipo, collagen. She needs to change her hair and buy some skinny jeans, then hit the club scene. Maybe she could date that Stavros guy or maybe John Stamos. She needs to get back on the magazine covers, she does't have much time left.
