I am a muslim man and my reply is yes to head scarves and no to face-covering veils. Covering hair will not interfere with teaching but veil will. Please do not believe what uncle wrote. He just mix between bad cultures of some muslims which are forbidden in Islam though some muslims are still practicing it (like female circumcision) and Islam. Although this is a bit far from your question, but in Islam women have a very high status.

Head scarves yes. But not masks showing just the eyes. I have a Japanese theatre mask. It scared young grandchildren and they certainly are not wimps. All this controversy over what is not in the Koran fuels anger.
Dizzy.

My personal feeling is that Muslim headscarves are repulsive and offensive because of the oppressive associations of Islam with regards to women. This is a paradoxical situation. It's like when the white supremacists get police escorts and ACLU representation so they can march in parades. The law protects them, and the sanctity of the law trumps the moral indignation of their presence. Here's an idea... if we must allow this sign of culturally rooted cooperative codependent abuse, we could exercise our rights by refusing to speak to anyone who does not uncover their head and call that an expression of our own faith. Seriously... why not say, "I cannot in good conscience interact with a person bearing a cultural emblem of something I find so morally reprehensible that it interferes with my basic ability to maintain professional courtesy." That seems fair to me. Islamic women, if you are reading this ... you may imagine that your scarf wearing is a sign of your faith and modesty. At a deeper level, please consider that it is an egotistical expression of public piety, and does not merit the harm it does in terms of reinforcing mysoginistic tradition in your own community and creating greater mistrust and division in the larger society.

PS - for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about when I say "oppressive associations of Islam with regards to women," please google "female circumcision", take if from there, and start educating yourselves.

If they are to live in a free society, they have to live as per the rules of the country. If they want to be as per their religion, they should be in their house.

How / what could they teach with their face covered?
How do you know there is no impersonation?
Should not the students see their teacher and get aquainted with them?

And I endorse the views of the "uncle'

Why not? Christian teachers wear crosses. Jewish teachers wear the Star of David.
