Does it mean let's say if a car says it gets 38 mpg, when I drive ,one gallon of gas will lasts or iIget to drive for 38 miles?

It's hard to save gas by using cruise control cos highways always have roadworks and you have to slow down.

If I push the gas after driving on cruise control, it is then unset right?

It simply means, that the vehicle's manufacturers are claiming that their product will travel upto a certain number of miles, on 1 gallon of its recommended fuel.
If you bother to read the footnotes, which are printed in 'fine' [miniature] types, you will learn that this distance is based on tests carried out in their own testing-tracks - and that actual performances will vary according to the amount of traffic [involving frequent applications of its brakes] it encounters, plus the condition of the roads it travels on !
...All these are just marketing ploys, to tempt potential buyers - and should best be taken with a bucketful [a pinch is NOT enough !] of salt !

Miles per gallon (MPG) is how far a vehicle can travel on 1 gallon of gas. This is sometimes an estimate, based on tests / averages.
MPG / City is lower than MPG / Hwy. due to more frequent stops, etc.

HI 38 mpg =38 miles per 1 gallon of fuel, accelerate easy decelerate easy . cruse control has it's place, never use it on wet or slippery roads is hard to use in traffic. you must use brakes or stop button to disengage it. lots of luck:)

First of all the mpg is an estimate of gas mileage based on perfect circumstances, which will never happen. Second the cruise control works differently on all vehicles. Check your owners manual or go to the local Dealership for specific vehicle.

Basically, you will be able to travel about 380 miles on 10 gal of gas.MPG is an average that is gotten by dividing the number of miles driven by the number of gal used.

If you set your cruise a little slower than traffic is running, you will not have to turn it on and off all the time. This will allow you to get your best mileage by running at a steady speed.

Pushing on the gas will allow you to pass another car but will allow you to return to your set speed when you take your foot off the gas. You will have to set a new cruising speed by using the set buttons. Stepping on the brake will only release the control and the set point will remain the same.
