Yes it is true.
This recently caused a problem with an Ethiopian Airlines flight out of Paris.
Under French aviation law the maximum age of a commercial pilot is 60.
The DGAC (French equivalent of CAA or FAA ) recently did a surprise inspection of the flight and according to the captains papers he was born in 1945 making him 61 years old.He insisted that he was only 55.
The DGAC would not allow the captain to operate the flight and it was delayed 8 hours until a replacement pilot arrived.
