Is Jane Eyre a captain of her own destiny or a victim of circumstance and coincidence?

Whichever essay question you chose - make sure you can support your arguements and back them up with relevent quotes from the book.

Good luck - it's a great story, one of my favourites!

I cant avoid being a sociologist can I?
but this is how I would look at it
'Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre both to some extent have a somewhat sad feminine undertone. It is not so obvious at least in the former. But it is there. It is of the strange compulsions and limitations that singlehood brought upon women in the English society back then. Yet compared to women in its predecessor (P&P) Jane Eyre's protagonist Jane is a woman who is ready to question and overcome these compulsions, limitations with some womanly strength and pride. How do we explain this - as a general societal change or as a matter of individual expressions of authors?'

You were very honest about your request. However, to write this for you would be to deprive you of the challenge that your tutor is trying to give you. Why have a tutor if you are not going to follow instructions? It seems as thoughyou are defeating the purpose of having a tutor.

i think an original but great question would be about "theme of remaining true to urself " .Like Jane having to choose between her own self intergrity or sacrificing it for the only love she had ever known.
1.her desire to remain autonomous
2.her refusal to marry for duty (to stJohn) and not for love
and other read for more.
