It depends to a great extent on the hypnotherapist and the susceptibility of the subject to hypnosis. It is really the CAUSE of the symptoms - why you have feelings of depression, anxiety and panic - that needs to be identified and treated. Hypnotherapy can treat the cause but it will have little effect if that is not identified first.
One method, which does not involve 'hypnosis' as such, is Emotional Freedom Technique. It is a 'self-help' method, so you are in full control of the treatment/therapy, through expert guidance, if you so desire, but it can be successful if you simply use the technique as described free on the website. It claims (and, I believe, genuinely) to deal with many phobias and similar problems. I have seen videos of the technique in action and the amazement of people who overcome, for example, a lifelong fear of water or snakes is convincing. You may find it worth looking at.
http://www.emofree.com will give you more information and it has a list of recommended therapists, so you may find one in your area. Most therapists can conduct treatment on the phone, so you don't have to even visit!
Edit: I looked at the Lawrence Leyton link. He says tantalisingly little about his actual methods but seems to have enjoyed some successes. Unlike EFT, he has a very sophisticated Flash website that actually says little more than 'buy my software' (£40/$80 - as he points out, this is considerably less than one might pay for a single session with a therapist). Perhaps that is what people want - Gary Craig's method is explained in full and for free on the Emofree website but the sheer detail may put a lot of people off!

Hypnotherapy is excellent for anxiety states including panic attacks. It will help you to reduce the anxiety and take control in a fairly short time. In some cases it may be necessary to help you to uncover the cause(s) of the problems so that the anxiety does not return. This will take longer depending on the nature of the cause(s).
For depression, some kinds of hypnotherapy can be very helpful but there are several different kinds of depression so you should really see a doctor first. Releasing the problems that caused or triggered the depression in the first place can be very helpful; drugs can be useful but only treat the symptoms.

I experienced all of the issues you stated, then some, and I found relief not through Hypnotherapy but through God. I found a Christian church in my area and discussed my issues with the pastor. I started attending church, reading the Bible, joined a Christian men's fellowship group, attended Bible study, and prayed, praying is just talking to God as your best friend. I was born with a chemical imbalance and still take several depression medications but I feel a lot better than I did in the past. With God all things are possible. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and I have learned when Im in trouble and facing what look like impossible situations I run to the cross not away from the cross. I will keep you in my prayers and God Bless you and your loved ones.

During a hypnotherapy session, the depressed individual experiences a variety of relaxation stages. The hypnotherapist combines these states with imagery, and as the person moves into deeper, trance like states of relaxation, the hypnotherapist is able to access the emotions and memories of the depressed individual that may have been repressed or forgotten. Once these memories are unveiled and learned behaviors are separated from the memories, the hypnotherapist reveals coping strategies and healthier, more productive thought processes directly to the subconscious mind of the depressed individual.

worked for me! only downside is cost, Hypnotherapist help you relax and be more calm to help you look at yourself in another perspective, whilst calm you seem to be able to resolve things better and understand whats happening. Self hypnosis is good and free once you know what to do, i still use it... have you checked lawrence leyton's website?
http://www.lawrenceleyton.com i recently took part in a show on channel 4 called "fear of flying" we used self hypnosis and all got on a plane and flew on it. i suffered bad PD and had fear of flying amongst other things, now im sky diving so it does work! Good luck and hope you find your cure
