The solution is good for years if it is UNOPENED. As soon as you open it, it can become contaminated and evaporate. After a month, who knows what could be living in it, even with preservatives.

I haven't personally heard of anyone who has had problems after laser surgery.

Don't use out of date solution and especially if it's been opened. Whilst it might seem fine, the likelihood is that bacteria has got into it and this would be introduced onto your eyes. They would cause an infection which may take time to become obvious but this infection can seriously harm your eyes by eating it's way into the eye and if left undiagnosed and untreated result in irreversible damage resulting in loss of sight. (It's painful too)
I'm afraid I don't really know enough about laser treatment except to say make sure you choose a reputable practitioner to do it.

The contact lens solution will go bad, and bacteria forms if you use it for too long after it tells you not to.

And there are no side effects or long term damage known. However there are people who have had it done, and it did'nt correct their sight fully and still needed to wear glasses. Also its an operation on your eye - so of course there are serious risks there even though the risks are so small.

Well it depends on how you take care of your products. When dealing with something as sensative as your eyes you want to be weary of bacteria and infection. It is best to always have clean hands and new solution at hand. I heard laser treatment is wonderful.. It takes about 30seconds and your vision is restored within 20 minutes. Like anything there is risk involved. Of course some people have problems..but I know lots who have not have any..my aunt one of them, and the results are amazing. Best of LUCK

With respect to laser surgery - My vision is 20/400 which is really bad. There was a time I really wanted to do the Lasik surgery. However, quite frankly, I am quite hesitant now... because of the possible side effects, and the other risks, etc.

I opted to try exercises to see if they would improve my vision. I created a blog so that people can follow my progress. You can check it out at

Hope this helps...
