Last I checked the civil war is over.
Tell them to get over it.

Hey, you can make a movie out of that. Or perhaps a play. Just kidding. You won't like me for saying things like that. You might think I'm making fun of you. But seriously, unless your family has reasons for not liking your would-be husband other than his being from the north, I'd say ignore them. You can't lose someone whom you have decided to be your husband, just because your family is prejudiced against him.

You have to live your own life. That should always be your first priority. You can never be happy if you are meeting other people's standards, or adapting to other people's perceived faults. If you are not being who you want to be, then nothing works.
Your family will either have to accept you or not, that is their option, but if you realize that they are racist and full of prejudice, you can never be happy living like that.
I would advise that you move...somewhere that has people who have enough to do running their own lives, and realize that they can't spare time to run yours.

ask yourself why are they like that. At times its good to listen cause love on its own cannot make your relationship strong. You need support especially from family and friends

Move. And make sure your kids are raised to be open minded.
Show them the world in all its beauty and ugliness and teach them to reach out for beauty and beat back ignorance and ugliness when, where, and however they can. .
