I would say it was a good idea!

That's really hard to say, without knowing the details of a situation.

You haven't given us much to go on, here.

And that's two separate issues. I think most rec leagues are "old boys' clubs" mostly because most non-women's (specifically women's) leagues *are* boys' clubs! Most of the leagues I've been in that weren't women's leagues were mostly men, and more than that, guys who'd played together a while and were a tight community. Did I feel ostracized? No, never. Sometimes I was like "wow, I'm outnumbered," but at least in hockey, I've never found even the most entrenched group of guys to be anything but welcoming (at least once you get past the "are you serious/are you going to be a whiner/will you be tough" phase).

I'm assuming you're talking about a lawsuit, and I can't see suing and/or ruining a league because of it being a boys' club.

Your second comment, though... "fairness is gone" seems really subjective. What does that mean? If the fairness is really gone, if everyone is being treated unfairly, or even one person is consistently treated unfairly - then that's really something to look at.

If, on the other hand, we're talking about bad reffing or... I don't know something else, then that doesn't seem like a reason to bankrupt a league either.

So... elaborate? Sounds like an interesting situation.
