owww.. tell me about it. I am 58 now and i do remember those awful times, sitting there with a hot water bottle on my tummy every 4 weeks for at least a day.. Painkillers did not work for me, but of course you can try those, if you didn't already.
Taking the anticonception pill helped me a lot, but if you don't want that, ask your doc for a light muscle relaxer. Valium (low dose) did wonders for me.
Good luck kiddo!

Oh poor you :( I had cramps so badly when I was younger, I just had to go on the pill. You've only had your period for a year, so things will probably even out later :)

To help cramps, take a couple Aleve. It's a great pain killer! I'm surprised it's offered over the counter. It also puts you right to sleep. It doesn't do that for me because I'm practically immune to it :P Who knows what effect it'll have on you though.

You really should try it! It's a miracle worker.

I also find that eating less helps, or at least not eating foods that might bloat you :) Good luck!

Hope you feel better!

I used to have really bad cramps durign my period too. I would not be able to get out of bed. Birth control is the only way to get rid of these cramps. I started the pill about a year ago, and they don't bother me at all anymore. Sometimes, I can feel a cramp for a minute or two before I start, but its not bad and goes away quickly. Yaz (24 day pack) helps alot, not just with cramps, but moodiness and bloating also.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma.

I would suggest Advil or Motrin--however I tend to take 2-3 pills at a time. It is recommended to take the medication as soon as you start to feel pain or shortly before you expect your period to come.

To help prevent stomach upset, take it with food--something small like some toast. Talk to a family doctor or pharmacist before taking more than the recommended dosage on Advil. Something stronger can be prescribed for you if OTC medicine is not working.

Try to avoid caffeinated products a few days before and during your period (Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew, chocolate, tea, coffee, e.g). Same goes for excessively salty ifoods & sodas. Both cause water retention which could make you feel worse.

The exception is DECAFFEINATED tea....I've been told chamomile tea may be good tea for cramps and helps people relax and sleep.

Ironically, going on birth control pills can be another option if your cramps continue to be severe. They can work. See a dr. if you want to consider this option.

You may want to see your family doctor or gynecologist if your cramps interfere with your life or if OTC medications do not work.

All in all...try some of the methods, but see a dr soon! Help is available. Don't suffer in silence.

ADVIL LIQUID GELS THEY TAKE THE PAIN AWAY IN LESS THAN AN HOUR AND THEY DON"T MAKE YOU PUKE. tAKE THOSE WITH A NICE CUP OF HOT TEA AND YOU'LL BE STRAIGHT!!! if you want to prevent them you have to mark your calendar and make sure you drink A LOT OF WATER up to two weeks before you get your next period. Stay away from salty things the week and a half before your period, because salt retains water which leads to bloating in a womens case.

Take a warm bath and relax with midol, then tell your Dr. Try some herbs in the tub like lavender or chamomile...they have some of those aromatherapy bath beads for menstrual discomfort

Drink lots of fluid, avoid salty food, hot water bottle on tummy (not too hot) may help. There are some pain killers just for this so ask your pharmacist. Ponstan is the one my daughter uses.

get pain killers if its really bad like panadol for your period. or u could always eat chocolate. it works miricles for me..i dont know why..perhaps its coz of the sugar. or use a hot water bag thingy to warm your belly area. it helps soothes the pain.

there isnt much ways of preventing them..it varies with people. my mom always asks me to avoid cold drinks or tea when my period is nearing so as to prevent cramps. i guess it does kinda help.

Put a hot water bottle on your stomach, take Midol, and go to bed. This always worked for me. You can also see a gynecologist.

Heat (bath or hot water bottle) and painkillers.
If its that bad it might be wise to let your doctor know about it, then he can get you checked over to make sure theres nothing else going on.
