This is more than just a choice of what to wear. This is an anti-western statement. I was not surprised to read that this woman has links to the mosque used by the 7/7 murderers.
In western culutre, face to face communication is valued as a respresentation of honesty and openness. Covering the face represents deciet, duplicity etc. Theives and robbers cover their faces, honest people do not.
By rejecting this and insisting on the veil this woman is deliberately making an open rejection of us and our culture.
But she's still going to cost us £250,000 in legal aid to take her case to the European court. I'm sure her Mullahs could raise this money for her. Hook Hamza has enough.
I think that if she is so desperate to be anti western and reject our culture she should kindly remove herself from this county and go live in an Islamic State where she can wear what she likes.
No legal aid, free healthcare, welfare benefits or social housing over there though. Which is whay she and her like minded muslims WON'T leave. We are being taken for a ride by people who basically hate us for not beleiving the same things we do.

There are dress codes, and some of them are unwritten, i.e. they're taken for granted. When I taught in England, the only female teacher who was allowed to wear trousers was the sports teacher. I think I'm right in saying that the woman involved in this controversy was teaching English. As a language teacher, I ask my students to look at my lips so that they can see how unfamiliar sounds are made.
During teacher training we were encouraged not to cross our arms, because our body language would create a barrier between teacher and pupil.
Strangely enough, in Turkey, a country which is at least 80% Muslim, teachers are not allowed to wear the hijab, let alone the niqab in the classroom.
By provoking Muslims in the UK, Muslims are becoming more provocative. And the present government isn't helping. There should be a cooling-off period, during which a middle way is sought.

Muslim scholars disagree whether the facial veil is a religious requirement. Many say the veil is not. My understanding at present is that Allah revealed in the Qur'an that women should dress modestly and cover their bodies but not necessarily their faces. Some scholars say that women were given the choice whether to talk to people who were not members of their immediate family either face-to-face or from behind a "hijab". Now, "hijab" is Arabic for "curtain" and in olden days Arabs divided their homes into rooms with curtains. Some scholars seem to think the requirement was for women to talk to non-family members in another room (behind a curtain or "hijab"). Other think they do not have the choice and so, when they go outdoors or meet non-family members, they should keep a curtain (hijab) in front of their faces.
Personally, I would like to read some answers from real Muslim scholars on the subject because the matter is extremely delicate and needs clarification. I am sure that intelligent British people will respect religious requirements, but unless we are told definitively if the veil is or is not a Qu'ranic requirement, this argument will cause ill-feeling among many people.

I don't think that teachers can have a dress code because it is only one step away from them having to wear a uniform but a veil is an obvious impairment for a language teacher because you look at a persons mouth when trying to learn pronunciation in a foreign language.
I don;t understand why Jack Straw and Tony Blair didn't concentrate more on that aspect. To grumble about the veil being divisive is a bit of provocative nonesense when you consider what the ethnic groups wear, Black suits, Homburgs and pigtails for Hassidic Jews, extra long shirts, pyjama pants and tea cosy hats for Pakistani Moslems, Dog Collars for Christian vicars, Habits for monks, turbans for Sikhs.
A Moslem veil is no more or less divisive so why should that be singled out on that basis alone.

In the legal case the question should be one of could she do her job? The answer has to be no due to the inability to see her face, she was helping children to learn English so they will need to see her mouth and be able to hear her clearly. Why couldn't she come to a compromise and wear a head scarf? This way she is showing her beliefs in such a manner that wouldn't affect her ability to teach. Why do the veils have to black? It's quite sinister I think. I should imagine it's quite scary for a child too!

Did she wear her veil at the job interview?
When did she first start wearing it?
Does she wear it all the time or only when she chooses to stand out and advertise the fact that she wants to be different?
Who feels comfortable about holding a conversation with a person whose face is in a mask?
How does she get served in a bank or even a shop?
Too many questions.....not enough answers.

Very good.
You see all these cameras around the place are put there to recognise us not the veiled people.
Since the masses have to learn new ways to earn a crust, it will be early next week when the first gang of cross dressers are seen robbing a bank with the doorman thanking them for their visit.
They will be dressed in veils of course.
But the doorman?
Well he wants to keep his job because he is not of that group and therefore without recognition.
He's English.

The world has gone PC mad well BRITAIN and the states. If i travel to a predominantly Muslim or Buddhist country you are required by law to observe the local traditions, but in BRITAIN it seems you apply to come and live in the countries bring your own cultures and the natives not only have to accept them but are prosecuted, sacked, disciplined, and punished for not accepting them. IF i was a JEDI WARRIOR , and i went to a foreign country and practiced some strange ritual, i would be ridiculed. No if the particular teacher is teaching to a multi racial and religious class he/she should not positively discriminate against anyone certainly not children.DID you know in THAILAND you can not drink alcohol on the king or queens birthday and a comment against Buddha in punishable by death. BRITAIN was historically a christain country we should get tougher but then that" wouldn't be cricket, old bean would it?"

She is entitled to wear whatever she wants in the privacy of her oen home but she needs to respect the british coulture. We see face covering as a agressive action such as bank robbers, criminals somebody thats had something to hide! She is a Teacher which is a role model for our small children and she needs to understand that the children may be scared of her or not be able to understand her!
At the end of the day if she wants to live in our country which is great if she does then she needs to be more understanding and maybe try and fit in other british women rather than alienate herself.

1.this is a very sensible question of all.
-I would let a person wear a wheal like that if she was badly burt on her face and she was ashamed of showing the scar's she's got that meake's her feel uncomfortable, but the kids in the class would be told about the teacher's accident and they would accept it,
-not this way of covering the face with a black cloth just because she is muslim what a load of crap this is,
I studied a acatholic convent scholl and i still remember i had 5 muslim teacher's and they never dressed like a muslim at all to our school, like all indian teachers they wear a sarie and a salvar kamiz or a chudira.
we never had problems in our schools in india and i think these schools should set a ground rule,
sure you can wear a head cover, but not cover your face.if you want to cover your face do it went your going out the school and if you want to cover your face don't take up teaching and if you do take up teaching kid's get real and don't be brain dead.because to me the muslim teacher is a alean i would not want a teacher with a covered face to teach me,end off.
-I WOULD NOT BE INTERESTED IN WHAT SHE WAS TEACHING ME BUT I WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER FACE IS SHE HURT OR BURNT OR CUT UP OR DOES SHE HAVE A BLACK EYE BEHIND THAT BLACK FACE COVER SHE'S GOT TELL ME IF I'M WRONG HERE.I WOULD WANT TO SEE WHAT HER FACE LOOKS LIKE.AT HOME THE TEACHER DON'T HAVEA FACE COVERED 24/7,SO WHY AT SCHOOL ONLY TO TAKE THE MICK OUT OF ALL OF US.COME ON WHEN SHE WENT FOR A JOB INTERVIEW SHE NEVER COVERED HER FACE DID SHE?SO WHAY NOW.SACK HER.SHE IS A WRONGIN.AND THE PROFESSION SHE HAS CHOSEN IS NOT THE RIGHT ONE.
TELL HER TO COME TO INDIA AND VISIT ME AND I WILL TAKE HER ROUND MY SCHOOL WERE I HAVE HAD MUSLIM TEACHER TEACHING ME.SHE CAN LEARN HER LESSION THERE,TO BEGIN WITH.
YES TELL THE TEACHER TO WEAR WHAT THE INDIAN TEACHER'S WEAR BACK IN INDIA.
I HAVE BEEN A TEACHER MYSELF AND I KNOW WHAT KIDS LIKE TO SEE IS THERE TEACHERS FACE AND EYES AND THE WAY THE TEACHER PRONOUNCES THE WORD'S.
I HOPE THIS TEACHER GOES BACK TO WHERE SHE CAME FROM BECAUSE SHE IS ONLY PUT UP TO WINDING US ALL UP,IN THE COUNTRY WHERE SHE IS COME FROM A WOMAN CAN'T EVEN GO OUT WITHOUT A MALE RELATION FROM THE FAMILY,AND THEY ARE LIKE IN PRISON IN THERE OWN HOME'S I HAVE LOADS OF MUSLIM AND HINDU AND DIFFERENT RELIGION'S LIVING AROUND ME,AND THE LOT OF US GET ALONG.NOT LIKE HERE,EVERYONE'S TRY TO MAKE EVERYONE'S LIFE A BIG NITE MARE.
STOP AND THINK FOR YOURSELF,THIS TEACHER IS PUT UP TO THIS TO WIND US ALL UP BY SOME SMALL MINDED POLITISION HERE.WHAT IS SHE TRYING TO GET OUT OF ALL THIS A JOB AT NUMBER 10.OH YES SHE WILL BE GOOD ON TONY BLARES RIGHT HAND EVERY DAY HE COULD HAVE A NEW LADY IN A VEIL AND HIS WIFE CHERIE BLAR WOULD'NT EVEN KNOW HE'S BEEN 2 TIMING HER ALL THE TIME.SHE WILL THINK ITS THE SAME ONE BEHIND THE VEIL EVERY TIME SHE LOOKS AT HER.
TEACHER SAY OUT THE SCHOOL GATES DON'T GO FRIGHTNING KIDS THEY DON'T NEED YOU TO TEACH THEM,GO BACK TO THE MUSLIM COUNTRY YOU COME FROM.SHE WOULD BE ABLE TOTEACH THERE NOT HERE,I WILL LET HER COVER HER HEAD NOT HER FACE IF SHE WANTS TO BE HERE TEACHING.
NO TEACHER SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN CLASS WITH THE BLACK STUFF ON THERE FACE NO WAY.
