Okay, I know that I should know this already, but I don't. If someone writes me a check, must I go to their bank or can I cash the check at my own bank?

Yes! You should be able to cash a check either at your bank, or at the bank it was issued at. Sometimes the issuing bank charges a small fee (like $5) if it is over a certain amount, however. Now, your bank MAY not allow you to CASH it if you have less money than the check in your account. The reason for this is simple: if they give you cash and then the check bounces, they will take that money out of your account. So they may make you wait a day or two if the amount is over the amount you have in your account. If you have good credit with your bank, however, they often will let you do it, anyway.

Yes you can cash any check at your bank. Usually they need to know that you have enough money in your account to cover the check in case that it bounces. If it is a large check than they usually like you to deposit the money first and allow the check to clear before using the money.

I think you can cash it at your bank, they might put a hold on it for a few days.
