Kinda of a gruesome topic, but was looking for documented information, biblical, purported or apocryphal, that supposedly gives forewarning of the coming apocalypse.
Many thanks in advance for imparting your knowledge :-) Might I say, it is a beautiful Friday today, wouldn't you agree?

I'm sorry backinbowl, I'm doing honest research into the validity of some pieces of well known apocrypha, so can you pleeeeaase try and be a bit more helpful than that? I don't care what you think - I want to know what is actually written on paper, what other people throughtout the ages have thought.

What are the seven signs of the apocalypse?
Lukas
Brooklyn, New York
Try this http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20040309.html
This was taken from there.
As with many questions related to Biblical scripture and prophecy, the answer is by no means simple. The book of Revelation, which details the apocalypse, doesn't include a definitive list of "seven signs." Over time, popular culture and various Christian sects created this concept based on their interpretations of events prophesied to take place before Armageddon, or the final battle of good and evil on Earth.
Many people believe that the seven signs directly correlate to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse described in Rev. 6:1-12. Expanding on that notion, others speculate on Revelation's list of seven seals, seven vials, and seven trumpets and what these symbols represent in today's world. For example, some say the Red Horseman and the second seal could represent a third World War, while others believe that the fourth seal, plagues and pestilence, represents modern diseases such as AIDS or cancer.
The number seven is a popular symbol throughout the Bible. And one school of thought supports a less literal interpretation of the seven signs. Advocates of this theory point out that not only is "seven" used frequently, but also many sections of the Bible aside from Revelation are considered "prophetic." They conclude that there may not be seven actual signs, and they may or may not all be found in Revelation.

apart from the mentions already made re. book of revelations, nostradamus, and mother shipton, there is also the papal prophesies by st malachy. after much research and reading, i found that these where the one's that may provide any useful insight into the subject.
in terms of a tangible sign, malachy's prediction says this is the second last pope.... of course any sites quoting his predictions say that he doesn't indicate this specifically... however, one can argue this forever. more to the point i think is that during the time of this pope, all hell will break loose, and when he leaves the vatican, you know you are in the time's prophecised by nostradamus. as for revelations... my take on it is that is ends at the point where WW3 begins.
the last pope will be elected when the "war" is over by those unwilling to let go of the past. but the religion will have died... so when he dies, there will not be another.
what is clear from all of the prophecies is that the end of times is infact the end of the christain church... and could be the end of all the abrahamic religions (judaism, islam, christianity)... give it another 20 years and you'll probably know.
at least a 1 in 3 people will survive what ever happens over the next 20 years... which i think are pretty good odds considering the destruction humans are capable of currently. to take heart, strap in your seat belt and get ready for a bumpy ride. :)

People have been looking for the impending apocalypse for thousands of years and guess what - if you look hard enough, you'll find it.
The end of the world has been prophesised so many times and hasn't happened it's not even funny any more. A few years ago there was this thing called Y2K that everyone got excited about. Turned out to be a big bunch of nothing.
So live every day as if it were your last because it might be - but don't stop building a better world for your children because they're likely to be here long after you're gone.

There were predictions by Mother Shipton and Nostrudamus to name but two, but the real signs are more current.
911, a clear message that some people will provoke an apocolypse by poking a stick at a nuclear monster (the USA) which could anaihalate entire countries.
Taiwan and the threats made by China about their unrelenting claim to sovereignty which they say they are prepared to back with force with the only possible result being a face off between the 2 biggest nuclear super powers, China and the USA.
N Korea saying that sanctions are an act of war which they are prepared to confront with their new nuclear capability.
Iran with its emerging nuclear capability controlled by people who will willingly die for their religious beliefs. Nuclear capability unrestricted by fear is very likely to produce an apocolypse.

Well, apocalypse in the U.S. would be the dollar collapsing. That would be the domino that starts it all. Bush has already given the government the right to imprison indefinitely anyone they call a terrorist. He also created Homeland Security. Every fascist state has an entity just like it. Hitler started fires and blamed it on the communists. He got the public so afraid of the communists that they let him take control. The rest is history, and horrific it is. Our government has us afraid of terrorists. History is repeating itself. The dollar collapses; food disappears out of supermarkets; martial law and there we are. Next, nuclear war. Global readjustment. So enjoy this wonderful country while it lasts and pray it lasts for our children and their children.

Everything around us bad, because it happens each day more often.Even kids started to kill because of computer games and different other stinky things are happening.Mother Earth don't like that and she will soon start ''cleaning''. After we'll be destroyed on Earth will appear new civilization, like it happened before too.Haven't you ever heard theory about five smart civilizations before us on Earth.Lemurians? Their technologies still are on the Earth, hiding in some deep cave in Himalaya mountains.Well as I can say about lemurians they are still here too only they're not awake, they are waiting for smarter civilization on Earth like themselves for show them how to use their smart technologies.I know sounds like nightmare but you should read some book about this, there is scientifically explanation for all this.

More interesting are all those visions of doom and destruction that DID NOT happen. The time between Bible and today is littered with dreams/ visions/ of Armageddon and destruction. At the time all the religious fools were convinced the world was finished. I witnessed this in Wales, when a group of doomsters climbed Snowdon to escape the destruction. At the time their religious leader had convinced his gullible flock to prepare for death .Guess what happened?
