We just got our heater fixed but I'm not so sure if it's on. I just smell that gas and it's like 4:30 in the morning.

Yes, I think you should definately be alert to it! Maybe call 911 and ask what you should do. I don't know what else to tell you. I am a Christian and I would go around the house and pray- for protection and wisdom. I would definately not ignore it. Wake your hubby up and tell him what is going on. I will say a prayer for you! I know from experience that it works!
Listen to Amber C.- DON'T TURN ANYTHING ON!

you should find the shut off to that appliance... it is probably a red handle valve.. turn it... or go out too the main meter along side the house, you will need a wrench... turn the main valve...

also, wake the kids, and get them out of the house..... what you are smelling is murcaptin.. they put it in gas to let you know if you have a leak, it doesn't take much of that to let you know you have a leak so probably not that big of a problem but could be a small leak somewhere... you need to shut the gas off for the night....

so best to get kids up, put in car and find wrench, turn meter or valve too appliance... call gas co. if you cant do this, they usually ahve an emergency 24hr number....

Yes, I had a problem like this. I called 911 and they told everyone to get out of the house. It didn't even seem like it was a big problem, I just wanted advice. It turned out to be a big problem and the gas was leakign or something like that. It could have killed everyone had we waited too long. You should not hesitate. If it is strong like you say, call 911. You have nothing to lose if you call but a lot to lose if you don't. I even fear waiting to long to post this response

call your gas company, they should have a 24hr emergency phone line dedicated for this purpose. i have had to do it in the past, they will send someone out at no cost to check for leaks.
