a lot of things I believe if you buy what you really want the first time no up grades and better quality will last longer for most items. if you can afford to get what you want the first time do it. my husband use to get something cheap then up grade 4 times paying more then if he just saved and got the perfect one the first time (grill, cookware, watch) drove me nuts. electronics this does not apply to.

Decent car tires. Safety features (such ABS, airbags, etc.) are useless unless your tires are of acceptable quality. At the end of the day, they are the only thing separating you and the road.
Comprehensive health insurance is another one, just in case.
