Think about it this way. What is the common denominator? You! Columbus went against society by stating that the earth was not flat. He had much to risk if he was wrong. Most people are addicted to being right. They will tear down long standing relationships because of this addiction. Hopefully you're just looking for the truth. Truth seekers ask more questions. Question them in a way that's non-threatening in order to get them to expand their answer. A great phrase is,"How do you mean"? Then shut up. If you don't like their answer, keep digging deeper repeat "how do you mean?" Don't fall into their trap of always being right. The Bible says, "our self righteousness, is like filthy rags".

Honestly, this isn't intended to be fresh....
Is there any chance they aren't all that preoccupied with being right, but it seems that way to you? Maybe you want to be right, and if they don't go along with that you see them as the ones who are preoccupied with being right?
Is there any chance that you are someone who may be wrong a good part of the time (or who voices opinions about what others may be thinking or being even though you may not really know what they're thinking or being), and other people feel the need to speak up?
Do you hang around with people who have big egos?
Are you someone who has an appearance that isn't very intimidating, and as a result people tend to assume you don't know what you're talking about and second-guess what you've said? (Even if you do know what you're talking about)
Just some possible reasons...

Everyone thinks they are right all the time. It's normal and instinctive so they might not even know it.
How about you? How often do you admit to being wrong?
From the tone of your question it seems that all your friends think they are right, when in fact only you are. Am I wrong?

1. Because you're studying psychology?
2. Because you're saying the same thing to them?
3. Because they are?
