Is it from the day you buy it, or when you register the ID number? A friend gave me an iPod recently - how can I check out when the waranty runs out?

As everybody has said already from the date it was bought.
The laws are different in every country but here in Europe, for example, the guarantee is for two years.
But of course the guarantee is not valid if you damage it or get it wet.
