save all your important files onto an external source or CD.

IE Backing up your my documents or music, "backup" is another word for copying.

so if you copy your files to an external hard drive, or a USB key or a CD or DVD disk, that is considered backing up :)

It means taking all your personal data, pictures, movies,mp3's etc., and moving them off your computers hard drive onto another drive or some other storage medium (i.e. cd, dvd, floppy,flash drive, hard drive, etc), so that in case your computer's drive died, you'd still have all your data.

It's kind of like taking copies of all the personal valuables in your house and storing them offsite in a bank safety deposit box.

to save ur data and u can use it when ur computer is attacked or hacked by virus u are able to give a hand to help u to settle the need of replacing important data

It means that you need to create a copy of important files
[registry,system,etc]
when the disaster comes,you can restore them back.
